On 26 January 2024, the new Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) gathered for its inaugural meeting at the Hotel Königshof in Bonn. Consisting of twelve scientists, this advisory board will from now on support the work of the BBK and advise the office in its tasks from a scientific perspective - among them is also the head of the KaVoMa study programme, Prof. Dr Lothar Schrott.
BBK President Ralph Tiesler and Dr Tobias Plate, who sits on the Advisory Board as a representative of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs (BMI), thanked the academics for their participation.
"With your expertise, you are helping us to further develop civil protection at a high, scientifically sound level. I am therefore looking forward to your advice - especially on the question of how we can meet the current challenges in civil protection as efficiently as possible through the work of the BBK," emphasised BBK President Ralph Tiesler.
In future, the Advisory Board will meet twice a year with the aim of presenting scientific findings and discussing them in relation to civil protection and the BBK. The Advisory Board will also take a critical and constructive look at the tasks performed by the Federal Office from a scientific perspective.
