The PARADeS consortium traveled to Ghana from 17th to 26th April aiming to carry out the planned workshop on the training of stakeholders, visit the installation of community water level gauges, and meet with the representative of the University of Ghana-MIASA and the University of Cape Coast.

Workshop

The workshop held on the 19th - 20th of April aimed to prepare and test the concept for the "Training of specialists, decision, and policymakers (ToSDP)" which is the core outcome of the PARADeS project. The workshop is envisaged to equip local practitioners, technical experts/specialists, and decision-makers of Flood Disaster Risk Management with advanced and specific backgrounds, skills, and practical experience. The workshop was well received and successful and generally the stakeholders were pleased with the current products and outcome of the project.

Community Gauges

On the 21st of April, the German partners together with the WRC partner responsible for the installation of the gauges visited some installation sites to assess the situation and condition of the gauges and posters.

University of Ghana MIASA

On the 21st of April, the University of Bonn and the University of Freiburg visited MIASA’s office in the University of Ghana Campus in Accra. The meeting yielded interesting outcomes as MIASA was impressed with the success of the PARADeS project outcomes and their willingness to continue with further collaborations through a four-month International Fellowship program on Urban sustainability and governance to support urban water management and agriculture in Ghana.

University of Cape Coast Visit

A successful meeting with staff of the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, University of Cape Coast was held on April 24, 2023. The meeting was led by Prof. Benjamin Kofi Nyarko, an alumnus and the international Ambassador of the University of Bonn, and Head of Department for Geography and Regional Planning, UCC. The purpose of the meeting was to interact and discuss the PARADeS project with UCC. As a result of the meeting, a pilot project for the FLOODLABEL Ghana was agreed upon.
